My breathing intensifies as I come to the crest of the hill and surpass it. I descend down the other side of the hill and come to a sharp turn on the trail. I could go right and follow the signs for the trail, but if I go left I will get to run a new part of the trail I never have. I decide to turn left. I’m running on a long straightaway when I see a mirage in the distance. My eyes have sweat in them and I use my hand to brush the sweat away. The mirage is still there. My eyes seem to believe what they see, but my brain does not compute. I go from a steady run, to a brisk jog, to a slow walk. “What the fuck,” I say aloud to myself. On the ground is a freshly fallen tree from a storm. I see them, a couple, a man and woman. The woman is bent over the tree, the male behind her steadily thrusting inside of her. Her moans scream pleasure, thrill, and intense pleasure. I continue walking, slowly, they have not seen me yet. I step off the trail slightly but continue to gaze on these lovers.
